Thanks to everyone that came out to Saturday's meeting, we enjoyed seeing your faces and hope that you had fun.

  • Krista, our Treasurer, gave us the updated financial info.

  • Jessica, our Secretary, announced our membership numbers.

  • Marie, our VP, announced a handful of things happening around town that could help you with your holiday shopping.

  • Thanks to all of the volunteers that helped collected, organize and prepare the room for our annual fundraiser. If you want to get a peek at the event, our Instagram page was updated to include a quick video and some photos of the items that were up for grabs.

  • If you missed Show & Tell, you can see pics of many of the items that were shown, including the lovely quilt that was made for Kristy, our President. The 168 blocks were made by both past and present members put together over the past few months.  The quilt was then pieced by Jessica, quilted by Dottie and bound by Krista

The current and future Board wishes you and yours a Happy Holidays! and Happy New Year!

Please be respectful and do not use this event as a way to clear out your trash-able 1990s quilting magazines, old tangled thread, etc. To see how this event works, check out this link from 2013.

In exchange for your total donation, you will be issued a set number of tickets in December based on the below table.

If the estimated Retail value of your entire donation is…
$10 or less = 5 Tickets

No October Meeting

Hello Modern Quilters,

Just a quick reminder that we will NOT be having our regularly scheduled meeting on Saturday, October 14th, as it is our annual quilting retreat...SewMeSTL.

All attendees should have received an Event Info email on Sunday, October 1st; which includes info on what to bring, what to expect, etc.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It always feels like the last quarter of the year zooms by, so here are a few quick things to consider prepping for:

  • We are looking for a passionate member to be the guild's next Secretary, is that you? October 15th is the due date to put your name in the hat...don't delay.
  • We will be collecting 2018 membership dues ($40) which must be paid at our November or December meeting.  All members who do not pay during one of those two months will be removed from the Roster, due to the fact that we have to have final numbers into The MQG by the end of December.
  • Show & Tell
  • Collecting items as part of our December Fundraiser.  Want to know more about that event, check out this post from 2013; which breaks it all down.

We hope to see you at SewMeSTL; but otherwise, we look forward to seeing you in November.

Thank You!

Meeting Recap (September 9th, 2017)

Thank you for spending your Saturday with us. We hope that you enjoyed the meeting, and were inspired to pick up some fabric and start sewing. Here is a recap in case you missed something.

  • Marie, our Vice-President, provided lots of quilting/crafting announcements; which you will find at the end of this post.

  • Krista, our Treasurer, gave us the updated financial info and reminded everyone that we still have expenditures of SewMeSTL coming up in October.

  • Jessica, our Secretary, announced that we now have over 110 members.

  • Kristy, our President, led a discussion on Modern Quilting and shared some of her experiences as a QuiltCon Juror and Judge.

  • Those members who participated in the Officer's Book/Pattern Challenge then took to the floor to show off the items they made and share a little bit about the book and/or pattern that they used. Prizes were then randomly awarded. Thank you to all those who participated.

  • Jessica showed the finished Missouri Cornfield block, pictured below, that our members will be making for the QuiltCon Charity Quilt this year.  During the week, she emailed the instructions to all dues-paying members and reminded everyone of the extremely important October 15th due date. While there will be some fabric available at SewMeSTL for those who would like to complete their block at the event, you are free to make the block on your own and bring it to the event, or mail it to Jessica or Dottie.  [[Missouri Cornfield Block Directions]]

  • Kristy then reminded everyone that the November elections are just around the corner, and we are looking for a passionate member to join the Board as Secretary.  If you are interested, please be sure that you email the guild, or inform Kristy no later then October 15th to get your name on the ballot.

  • The Member's Swap/Challenge Committee announced the final swap of the year; which will take place at SewMeSTL...so please be sure that you come prepared if you would like to participate. Info below.

We will have brown bags available at the event if you have forgotten yours.

Meeting Recap (August 12th, 2017)

Thank you for spending your Saturday with us. We hope that you left with some new knowledge, inspiration and ideas for future projects. Here is a recap in case you missed something.

  • Marie, our Vice-President, provided lots of quilting/crafting announcements

  • Krista, our Treasurer, gave us the updated financial info including a reminder that we recently paid for our meeting space through the end of the year, as well as what the Quilt Show actually cost us.

  • Jessica, our Secretary, announced that we now have 110 members.

  • Tips & Tricks Day was a success thanks to our teachers who took the time to share their knowledge with our members.  Thank you to Kerry, Patti, Tess and Dottie. Check out our IG page to see what they were teaching.

  • We then passed out ballots for the proposed Bylaw changes, and after tallying up the responses by the dues-paying members in attendance, all of the proposals were approved.

  • Kristy reminded everyone about the Presidential vacancy at the end of this year, and explained that only one candidate came forward.  She proposed a motion to accept that person as President, instead of going through the motions of a September election. The motion was accepted and we are proud to announce that Jessica will be our guild's President for 2018 & 2019.

  • The elections for the remainder of the Board positions will occur in November and all interested candidates should contact Kristy no later then October 15th.  While Krista and Marie will gladly continue in their role for another year, should someone wish to put their names in the hat, they must do so by 10/15. The responsibilities of those positions can be found here [[ Officer Roles ]]

  • It was announced that SewMeSTL would not be having workshops this year due to a lack of Teacher interest and fiscal responsibility; but that only means that there is more time to sew all day and into the evening.  Sign-ups are required and will be emailed out this week. Also we are still 6 rooms shy of our required 20, so we encourage you to grab a friend or two and book a room for Saturday evening.

  • Our charitable project; which is to make Little Dresses for Africa and Britches for Boys is due next month; which is quickly approaching. To read all about it, check out this link which gives you all the info.

  • Also, don't forget about our Officer's Pattern/Book Challenge; which also has a due date of September.  All the rules can be found here

Thank you to the Quilt Show Committee for all the hard work, the STLMQG members who submitted quilts, and all those that volunteered their time this weekend.

It was a huge success, with 540 people attending our first show. The feedback we received was extremely positive, and everyone was so supportive.

Viewer's Choice went to Tennessee Waltz by Annie Cook.

To see photos of some of the quilts in the show, check out our Instagram hashtag #stlmqgquiltshow.

Big thanks to Vicki Anderson, the Publisher of Modern Quilts Unlimited magazine, who stopped by the show with her husband. She even made a quick slideshow and shared it with all of their Facebook followers ... how exciting!!
