HABITAT Challenge Results --Part 1--

I could not be prouder of our STLMQG and what we did with the HABITAT Challenge, sponsored by FreeSpirit Fabrics.  Each participating member was given 6 different Fat Eighths of Jay McCarroll's HABITAT collection.  Our guild's rules were pretty simple:
  1. You can only use HABITAT fabric and any additional solids that you choose
  2. You must make a quilt that is larger then 36 x 36 and bring it completed to the Oct. 8th meeting.
Our members certainly brought their A-game to this Challenge and we want to share with you the results of all their hard work.  There is just too much goodness to go around so we'll be featuring our member's quilts in 2 parts.  Here is Part 1.

Those members that participated in this Challenge and would like their quilt featured here, please make sure that you send me a photo, upload one to Flickr, or let me know if the photo that Mary Claire took during the meeting works for you.  I'll be writing a Part 2 next week.

Thanks Again to FreeSpirit Fabrics for allowing us to have fun!

Rip Up Wrap Up

Can we just say the reveal of our Rip Rip Ripping Challenge at August's Meeting was fab-u-lous!
The St. Louis Modern Quilt Guild sure knows how to rock a challenge!
Bravo and thanks to everyone who participated!!

We're going to feature a handful of crowd favorites here on the blog, but if you are a member of our Flickr Group you can see all the project's here!

First up is this tessellating pinwheel quilt by Jan O.  Aren't you loving her mix of fabrics and colors?
Well done!!

Elizabeth created this beautiful shadowed patchwork quilt!  Everyone loved the back as much as the front; make you sure you go check it out in our Flickr Group!

Gina's birds were a big hit.  Love those pinks and oranges!

Cara wowed us with her half square triangle quilt.  The colors and fabrics really make this traditional design modern!  Inspiring work Cara!

Our clever members pulled out all the stops with this challenge!
Look at some of the goodies that were made!!
Who made these items and pattern info (if available) is located with each picture on our Flickr Site!

Thanks for making our guild great!

RK Solids Only Challenge

June's meeting was color overload in the best way possible, as the Robert Kaufman Solids-Only Challenge quilts were revealed.  If you missed out on this meeting, there is no way to recreate the excitement; but I will share with you a sampling of the quilts that were revealed that day.

We even tried to stand on chairs to capture the loveliness in 1 frame; but it too was impossible.

Thanks to Robert Kaufman for providing the Kona Charm Packs and sponsoring this challenge.

Also thanks to Cindy and Nancy for uploading some photos for those members who are not on Flickr.  If you want to see what the other MQG across the country are making, check out this Flickr group.

Update:  We are featured on Robert Kaufman's blog The Swatch and Stitch, check it out here.
