Today marked the last meeting of 2010 for the STLMQG, and boy oh boy was it packed full of fun and excitement...handmade goodies were swapped, quilts were shown and laughter was literally everywhere.
Here is a brief recap of our meeting, below you will find additional notes, links and such.
-If you picked up your membership card today and want to get signed up for the 10% off Discount card from Jo-Ann's Fabrics, please follow this link. Select the Enroll Now button and then select VIP Discount card. The name of our group should be written as "St. Louis Modern Quilt Guild". You can expect to receive your card within 4-6 weeks. Upon receipt, take it, your membership card and valid id to your nearest Jo-Ann's Fabrics and speak with a manager for activation. **Also as some people noted, several other quilt shops in the area also offer a discount to guild members, so if you are out shopping, ask them.
-Would you like to participate in the STLMQG Member Spotlight, please send us an email and we'll get you on the list. It's a great opportunity to tell us a little about yourself and share some photos of your work here on the blog. Mary Claire, our VP, has graciously agreed to be the first in line.
-Don't forget to make a nametag if you don't already have one. It can be any size and any style that you want...the key is to bring it and wear it.
-Are you dying to make some Hexies, maybe Spiderweb or String blocks, maybe something improv? I bet there's a handful of others who would love to join you. Why don't you start a block swap? Depending upon the type of block, it could be one month long or all year. We'd love to get something started in January...think about it and let us know before then so we can make things official.
-Here are some of the links that were mentioned today, if there is something missing let us know.
Wendy's Easy Drawstring Bag Tutorial
Noodlehead Gathered Clutch
Mary Claire's Fabric Rosette Pin Tutorial
The Sewing Summit - sew + connect + inspire
-Also, remember during January's meeting, Jamie, will hold a workshop on Flickr/Blogging/Etc. You won't want to miss this PowerPoint presentation and accompanying handout. I am confident that once you become accustomed to all that the online world can offer, you will become addicted and enjoy Modern Quilting so much more.
-Finally, don't forget that we will be hosting our 1st Challenge next month. All the rules and information will be distributed at the January meeting...it's okay to start getting excited now, we already are.
In closing, we would like to wish everyone a Happy Holidays!! and joyous New Year!!
