Meeting Recap (July 13, 2019)

Thank you to everyone who came out to Saturday's meeting! It was our 9th anniversary, and we celebrated with cake, presents, and lots of fun. We hope everyone had a great time.

  • Gayle, our Treasurer, gave us the updated financial info. You can still pay your 2019 dues; because we're past the halfway point of the year, dues are now just $20 for the rest of the year. You can pay via our Paypal link or mail a check to Gayle (see our member roster for her contact info).
  • Krista, our Secretary, announced our membership numbers and passed out our MQG and STLMQG membership pins. We reached 150 members this meeting! Note: This year, the MQG is no longer sending printed membership cards. If you'd like a paper copy to use for discounts, etc., you can access and print it online. To access your digital card, log in to your MQG account, click on "My Dashboard" in the right sidebar, then click the orange "Membership Card" link at the top of your profile page.
  • Marie, our VP, announced several pieces of quilting news and happenings (more about these will be sent via email).
  • Jessica, our President, covered several items:
    • Our second quilt show is coming up this weekend, July 20-21. It will be held at the Kirkwood Community Center. All the info about the show can be found here. Be sure you've signed up to volunteer and spread the word on social media.
    • This month's Hand-Sew Happy Hour will take place on Tuesday, July 23 at the St. Louis Bread Co. in St. Louis Hills. More info here.
    • In September, we're welcoming Giuseppe Ribaudo to the guild for a lecture and workshops. Registration for the workshops is now open for members. Jessica also announced our 2020 speakers: Tara Faughnan (April 17-19) and Jen Carlton Bailly (June 12-14). More info will be coming in the fall.
    • The guild Bocce Social is coming up July 27. Check your email for information!
    • SewMeSTL registration will take place the week after our August meeting. Be sure to book your hotel rooms soon so we know if we need more. We’ll be raffling off a room at the August meeting.
    •  QuiltCon will be held in Austin Feb. 20-23. Member registration for classes and entries for the quilt show are now open. Terry Darling and Marge Thomas are organizing our charity quilt efforts this year and will have info for us in August. The MQG has announced two new challenges for the quilt show.
  • The Charity Committee announced our fourth long-arm quilting winner for the Project Linus project. Congrats to Amy Suiter, whose quilt top will be quilted by Annie Clark. Thank you both for participating! The committee also passed out 59 quilt kits for our members to put together. Thank you to the committee for all their hard work putting the kits together and to everyone who took one! You can find all the info on the project here.

  • Our board members discussed their roles and took questions in preparation for our upcoming elections in November. The election sign-up form will be going out in a few weeks. The deadline to sign up is September 30.
  • This month, we celebrated Christmas in July with a show and tell of items our members love to make and gift. We had a great line up of ideas! We'll be sending out the list in this week's newsletter. We also had presents for our members: everyone received a 60mm Havel's rotary cutter and an annual subscription to Creativebug.

  • Marie collected 97 quarter-square triangle blocks for our second Block Lotto of the year. They were divided between our two winners, Tess McMahon and Nancy Dlugosz. Marie also announced our third Block Lotto, a cute pumpkin block, which will be due in August. Find the details here.
  • We announced that the Rainbow BOM skill for July is a log cabin or courthouse steps (details here)! Then, we raffled off a copy of Beyond the Block: Modern Patchwork Projects Inspired by Log Cabin Blocks to those who brought their completed June flying geese blocks to the meeting.
  • We wrapped up the meeting with another great Show and Tell, which included this beauty by Gayle Larson, among many others. Keep an eye on our Instagram page to see lots more pics of the meeting, show and tell, and our members' projects throughout the month.

See you at the August meeting, quilt show, and bocce social!
