- Gayle, our Treasurer, gave us the updated financial info. Don't forget your 2019 dues of $40 are due immediately to remain a member in good standing. You can pay via our Paypal link or mail a check to Gayle (see our member roster for her contact info).
- Krista, our Secretary, announced our membership numbers and passed out our MQG and STLMQG membership pins. Note: This year, the MQG is no longer sending printed membership cards. If you'd like a paper copy to use for discounts, etc., you can access and print it online. To access your digital card, log in to your MQG account, click on "My Dashboard" in the right sidebar, then click the orange "Membership Card" link at the top of your profile page.
- Marie, our VP, announced several pieces of quilting news and happenings (more about these will be sent via email).
- Jessica, our President, covered several items:
- Our second quilt show has been scheduled for July 20-21, 2019! It will be held at the Kirkwood Community Center. More info has been added to the blog Quilt Show page, including information on the quilt show categories and registration requirements. Registration runs through April 30.
- This month's Hand-Sew Happy Hour will take place on Tuesday, April 23 at Cotton Cuts Collective in Chesterfield. More info here.
- We're welcoming two speakers to the guild for lectures and workshops this year, Heather Jones in June and Giuseppe Ribaudo (aka @giucy_giuce) in September. Registration for the Heather Jones workshops is now open for members and will run through April 30. More info has been sent via email.
- In May, we'll be holding a vote on a change to our guild by-laws to fix the problem we have with the entire board turning over every two years. More information about this will be sent to members via email.
- The Charity Committee announced our second long-arm quilting winner for the Project Linus project. Congrats to Barb Phelps, whose quilt top will be quilted by Jamie Mueller. Thank you both for participating! The committee reminded members that they are still collecting fabric donations to make quilt kits for people who want to participate but don't have time to put their own quilt materials together. You can find all the info here. We were also joined by two representatives from Project Linus, who told us more about the organization and its work.
- For this month's activity, we enjoyed demos from Debbie Wilshusen and Gina Shelley, who showed off the techniques they learned in their QuiltCon classes. Debbie showed us how to use silk screens to print on fabric, while Gina showed off the collage embroidery technique. They were followed by Jamie Willis, a member who is also a weaver, who showed off the tools she uses to make beautiful woven bracelets. Information on a possible workshop with her will be sent via email. Thank you for sharing your talents and knowledge, ladies!
- We announced that the Rainbow BOM skill for April is a half-square triangle (details on the blog)! Then, we raffled off a copy of Patchwork Essentials: The Half-Square Triangle to those who brought their completed March plus sign blocks to the meeting. Aren't all of the plus blocks great?
- Finally, we conducted our first swap of the year -- a pattern swap! Lots of members participated and went home with a fun new project to try. Thank you to everyone who participated.
- We wrapped up the meeting with another great Show and Tell. Keep an eye on our Instagram page to see lots more pics of the meeting, show and tell, and our members' projects throughout the month.
Remember we have lots of items due in May, so keep these in mind as you prepare:
- Block Lotto #2 blocks
- No Excuses Challenge projects
- 1st collection of Project Linus quilts
- Yardage donations for Project Linus kits
- Half-square triangle blocks for the Rainbow BOM
- Accepted quilts for guild quilt show
See you in May!
